This is what I recently heard someone telling me...and that someone was me!
I went to get my yellow fever vaccine and as usual the tattoo on my upper arm usually sparks some curiosity and sometimes conversation with the nurse.
This time it was a lovely conversation about the inspiration behind it - me being a single mum. The nurse gave me a warm smile and her eyes softened, "I'm a single mum too" she said. She looked at me for a while and asked why I said it the the way I did l, as though it's a bad thing and not something to be celebrated.
I felt tears welling up in my eyes. She instantly gave me a hug and said when you look at your kids "NEVER SAY I LACK, ALWAYS SAY I AM ABLE TO PROVIDE".
Her words stayed with me for days, weeks and up to now. If only she knew that she gave me exactly what I needed in that moment - encouragement without judgement or sympathy, but from a loving place.
Not only did she encourage me, but she also challenged me to celebrate who I am and what do for my boys, instead of focusing on what I haven't been or done for them. I realised it's time to change my narrative about being a single mum!
This is part of my journey of going through a major life change. It can be painful but also rewarding and special if we allow it to be so.
Are you going through a major life change?
Could it be time to CHANGE YOUR NARRATIVE?
