I recently hit a road block. I was eager to write but could not think of a topic to write about and that was a huge red flag for me. Why? Because I typically don't think about what to write about, I am always inspired by something or someone I've observed, an experience I have had, or by prayer.
But this time, I was stuck. No matter how much effort I made to write, it just didn't feel right. I decided not to force the process and took a step back to observe what is going on in my life. I realised that I was spending precious time and energy responding to energy vampires and professional provocateurs - people whose daily goal is to provoke and distract others so they do not have to deal with their own stuff!
The distractions were emotionally draining and had caused me to lose focus in all areas of my life. It reminded me of the Winston Churchill quote: "If you stop to throw stones at every dog that barks, you will never reach your destination".
I had stopped to throw stones and in the process my inspiration to write was disturbed.
I had to acknowledge that the dogs will not stop barking and decided to create space for a mental 'distraction bin', where anything or anybody that qualifies as a distraction will be put going forward!
Does it mean that I won't be distracted in future? Of course not, but this time around I will spend less time and energy dealing with them. This is even more critical when we are at our lowest or at a low point in our life journey.
So friend, if you are feeling stuck. I invite you to take a step back too. Observe what is happening and follow my ABC process:
Acknowledge the distraction
Bin it
Continue to rise!
